In what ways might current societal or technological 'paradigms' be shaping our collective future in ways we don't yet recognize?
We are constantly operating within larger societal and technological paradigms – from the way we consume information (e.g., social media algorithms) to our economic models (e.g., capitalism) or our approach to environmental issues. These overarching frameworks guide our collective actions and decisions, often without conscious deliberation. Understanding that these are constructed paradigms, rather than immutable truths, allows for critical examination and the imagining of alternative futures. It encourages us to question the 'normal science' of our society and ask what 'anomalies' might be pointing towards future revolutions.
Choose a current societal issue (e.g., climate change, mental health, wealth inequality). Identify the dominant societal paradigm(s) that currently frames the discussion and proposed solutions. Then, brainstorm what a completely different, 'revolutionary' paradigm might look like for addressing this issue.
