Metal drink cans are getting safe, plant-based inside coatings.

95% confidence

Every soda and beer can has a thin plastic lining inside it. Without this lining, the drink would eat through the metal can in days. For a long time, these linings used a chemical called BPA, which scientists worry can leak into our drinks and affect our health. To solve this, PPG Industries created a plant-based alternative called Innovel PRO. This coating is made from plant resins instead of chemicals like BPA. It keeps your drink fresh, protects the metal, and is completely safe for human health, proving that plant-based options can work even in direct contact with food and drink.
