The Falklands War in 1982 was a conflict between Argentina and the United Kingdom over control of the islands.

Argentina invaded the Falkland Islands in April 1982, aiming to take control by force. The UK responded with a military task force and regained the islands after about two months of fighting. Around 960 soldiers died in the war. The conflict reinforced the UK's control and the islanders' desire to remain British, but the sovereignty dispute continues diplomatically.
